The new World of Cultures festival is on
Auckland will be celebrating diversity for the next 10 days, with free events from today to Sunday 28 March 2021 across the region in community and art centres, parks and public spaces.
Formerly known as Auckland’s International Cultural Festival, the 10-day event has dropped the word ‘international’ from its name and got a new, more inclusive lease of life as World of Cultures.
The calendar features 80+ events and culminates at Mt Roskill Memorial Park with CultureFest, a one-day celebration of food, music, sport and dance, with over 60 cultures to experience at one place.
“Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) is home to people of more than 220 ethnicities, making it one of the most diverse cities in the world,” said Auckland mayor Phil Goff. “Auckland Council’s World of Cultures and CultureFest celebrate this incredible diversity and the vibrancy it brings to Auckland through food, arts, music, dance and performance. The new festival format will help make this celebration available to even more people across our region.”
