Beautiful words: Aspaldiko (Basque)

We’re language lovers. No, seriously, we love ALL languages. This just the first in our collection of beautiful, crazy, fascinating words that don’t exist in English (but should).

You know that feeling of happiness and euphoria you get when you meet a good friend after a long time? The Basque people, living in the Pyrenees mountain region between France and Spain, have a word for it: aspaldiko (learn how to pronounce it here).

Aspaldiko literally translates as “long ago”. If you ever travel to the region, you’ll notice many restaurants being named after this word – because it’s fun to meet friends over a nice meal.
